Welcome Spring!

بِسْــــــــــــــــــــــمِ اﷲِارَّحْمَنِ ارَّحِيم
السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته

Spring is coming, spring is coming
All around is fair.
Shiver, quiver, on the river,
Joy is everywhere!

Allahu akbar! Machallah today is such a beautiful sunny spring day here in Algeria. I really woke up feeling great - very light and refreshed!!: Allah akbar!

Although Spring offically started back on March 21 ... just these past days here in Algeria, has the chill of the air passed over to a sweet warm breeze. This new change in the weather really makes me feel like it Spring!

The warmth of Spring excites me ... time for renewal, growth and a time to be in a state of amazement!
We put up the warm thick down blankets and heavy coats ... bring out the open-toed sandals, our sun hats, curiousity and head outdoors! Spring and (and Fall also) for me, are the best times to have nature walks with my children. The children enjoy the treasures of nature - time to discover growing plants, butterflies, flowers, and nesting birds. And not to mention all the picnics!

Spring - we are immersed in the amazement of the signs Allah(swt) has spread out before us – these experiences can lead us easily into a state of awe. And our awe is furthere with the sense that we are part of the amazing beauty of those signs. Seeing, understanding everything in the natural world as a sign from our one and onlyCreator. “Signs for those who reflect” is a constant refrain in the Qur’an. Signs from the Creator are all around us - we should never forget, but in fact study and  understand that the world exists in a perfectly divine balance. God asserts His balance in the Qu’ran in several places:
“He has created man: He has taught him speech and intelligence. The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed. And the herbs and the trees- both (alike) bow in adoration. And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance of (Justice). In order that you may not transgress (due) balance. So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. It is He who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures.” (55:3-10

I think in Spring, the Oneness of creation and the signs of God can be seen and understood the best. And lessons of  stewardship (of the planet) and the trust that comes with it (justice, balance) - are easily and visually tangible for children. And machallah if we get into the habit of instilling all of these principles into our children, they will understand : that Islam teaches a deep love of the planet, because loving the planet means loving ourselves and loving Allah, our creator. That is to say, Islam teaches that we are all one.

And what better time to start praying outside, then Spring? Does the feel of lush grass and vegation feel so good on the baked feet? The Earth is a mosque  and we are all part of the wonderful fabric of creation.

And for those who are maybe feeling their imam low, the springtime the rebirth or regrowth of the Earth is a good time to remind ourselves to prepare our hearts, to renew our faith. To once again put our trust in Allah.

Take a quick check of your faith. How seriously do you take the commandments behind the verses of the Qur'an? What importance do you give to the Prophet’s sayings? Is there any hesitation on your part to implement those commandments in your daily lives? Do the rewards promised in the Qur'an truly excite you and on the same token does the fear of the punishments in the Qur'an and Hadith prevent you to indulge in more sins?

If the answer to all these questions is not a strong “YES”, then it’s time to further renew your faith. The need to strengthen our faith and belief in Allah, belief in is His words in the Qur'an and the teachings of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), is extremely essential. The fact is that stronger our belief and faith, the more seriously we will take the words of Quran and the sayings of the Prophet and the more actively we will strive to make them part of our lives.

How do you welcome spring?
